Teams Organized For Membership Drive |

Team captains and general managers for this year's annual membership drive met for lunch and a strategy-planning session Wednesday at the Ramada Inn Conference Center. General managers for the two-day sign-up session are Brenda (Sprawl) Brown, Frank (Too Cool) Dias, Greg (Flex)Gani, George (Squire) Carter and Tom (Ice Man) McCool. The drive begins at 8:28 a.m. Tuesday, September 11. Working the first two-hour session are team captains Lori Ivy-Howeth, Wendell Jones, Carl Rhodes, Beverly Slatter, Milly Green and Alan Grantham. |
Captains working the 1:13 p.m. to 4:13 p.m. shift on Tuesday will be Phyllis Bailey, Dr. Bennett, Phil Latham, Brian Somerford and Trae Brown. Manning the telephones for the Wednesday morning campaign are team captains Sheila Smith, George Whaley and Janet Hudson, Rusty Asaff, Dea Ann Grigsby, Lance Dudley and Anne Yappen. The last leg of the campaign, 1:13 p.m. to 4:13 p.m. Wednesday, will be under the supervision of captains Mark Randall, Cindy Leleko, Lenora Reed, Debbie Fowler and Dana Harris. Preservation Seminar Comes To TownA continuing education course, entitled "Preserving This Old House and Other Historic Structures" will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, September 10 at the Center for Applied Technology, 2660 East End Boulevard. Ralph Tamper of the real estate school of Preservation Texas will be facilitator for the session. The purpose of the course it to provide Texas real estate borkers, salespersons, buyers, sellers and interested individuals with accurate information about acquisition, restortion and other topics relating to historic properties. The course meets the requirements for seven instructional hours of MCE credit as required by Section 7 of TRELA and by rule 537.71 of TREC. A pre-registration fee of $75 must be paid no later than September 5. Registration at the door will be $100. Texas Historical Commission Plans Area WorkshopHistorical Preservation Makes Sen$e is the topic of a free, regional workshop set for 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 18 in Lufkin. The event will be followed by an archeology presentation from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Museum of East Texas, 503 North Second Street in Lufkin. Sponsors are Texas Historical Commission and Texas Forest Trail Region. Topic of the keynote session if Fundraising and Grants, led by Carolyn Howard, Beaumont main street manager. Other discussions will focus on Heritage Tourism, Creating Our Future Historians, Historical Markers, Promoting Preservation in My Community and Visionaries in Preservation. The topic of the evening session is Archeological Resources in East Texas. Box lunches are available at $7 each.
